The aesthetics of horror

Horror Studies Journal coverHorror Studies is a peer-reviewed academic journal devoted to the rigorous study of horror in all of its cultural and historical forms, from film and literature, music and dance, to fine art, photography and beyond. Seeking to advance the academic study of horror in theoretically and historically informed ways, Horror Studies is devoted to publishing high-quality articles and reviews relevant to its focus. With a strong commitment to interdisciplinarity, the journal seeks to foster fruitful dialogue on horror between a wide range of different critical and scholarly traditions.

Our issues

We publish two issues per year, Issue 1 in the spring and Issue 2 in the fall.  Normally, the spring issue is a general collection, while the fall issue is devoted to a special topic and edited by a guest editor. Each issue contains approximately six scholarly articles as well as book reviews, interviews, and review essays.  To date we have published articles on literature, film, architecture, music, fashion, graphic fiction, and theory.

Horror Studies is published in the UK by Intellect Books and is shipped worldwide.  All contents are abstracted and indexed in the following databases: MLA; British Humanities Index; FIAF (International Federation of Film Archives); Scopus.

The inaugural issue of Horror Studies is available here for free download.
